Overview

GYMspace combines old-school arcade aesthetics with modern fitness UX to transform everyday workouts into a gamified experience.

The interface uses bold typography, structured cards, progress tracking, challenges, ranks, and social features to encourage consistency and motivation.

The problem

For many beginners, going to the gym consistently can be difficult. Lack of motivation, accountability, and a sense of community can make people lose their routine.

I wanted to create a product that makes going to the gym feel more social, competitive, and engaging.

The concept

I designed GYMspace as a social fitness platform where gym members can track their progress, maintain streaks, compete with friends, join challenges, and build a fitness community.

The goal was to turn a regular gym routine into something that feels more like a game, where every workout contributes to your progress and ranking.

Visual design direction

The visual language is inspired by classic arcade and old-school video games, combined with modern product-design principles.

I used:

  • Bold typography
  • Structured cards
  • Progress indicators
  • Streaks
  • Challenges
  • Rankings
  • Gamified UI elements
  • Social interactions

This creates a visual experience that feels energetic, competitive, and playful, while keeping the core fitness experience easy to understand.

Key feature: gym streaks

Users can record their gym activity and maintain a daily workout streak.

The streak system gives users a simple visual reminder of their consistency and encourages them to keep coming back.

Daily check-in: current streak, today's status and weekly progress

Key feature: challenges

Users can create fitness challenges with friends and invite others to participate.

For example:

30-Day Gym Challenge

Friends can join the challenge and compete based on their consistency.

A ranking system shows the participants' progress, creating healthy competition and giving users another reason to stay consistent.

Challenges: a 100-day race with progress, completion and your rank

Ranking system

GYMspace uses rankings to turn consistency into a competitive experience.

Users can compete with their friends and aim for higher positions:

  • ๐Ÿฅ‡ 1st Place
  • ๐Ÿฅˆ 2nd Place
  • ๐Ÿฅ‰ 3rd Place

This creates motivation through friendly competition.

Future feature: muscle-based rankings

One of my future ideas is a muscle-specific ranking system.

Users could compete in categories such as:

  • Biceps
  • Triceps
  • Chest
  • Shoulders
  • Abs
  • Back

The rankings could also be location-based. For example:

Biceps โ€” Vadodara
๐Ÿฅ‡ Aravind โ€” #1
Abs โ€” Vadodara
๐Ÿฅ‡ Vikrant โ€” #1

This would allow users to compete within specific fitness categories and build a stronger local fitness community.

Social features

GYMspace also focuses on the social side of fitness. Users can:

  • Connect with friends
  • Chat with other gym members
  • Share their gym activity
  • Join challenges
  • Follow rankings
  • Encourage each other
Friends: requests, your friends and suggestions, each with a streak

Design goal

The goal of GYMspace is not simply to help people track workouts.

It is to make fitness feel like something users want to return to every day.

What I learned

GYMspace helped me explore gamification, social interaction, motivation, visual design systems, and product UX while designing an experience that connects fitness with the emotional engagement of gaming.
